The study was designed to investigate the antisteatotic effect of a 6-d KD, which we have previously shown to result in ~3 kg weight loss and ~30% reduction in IHTG content . Thus, the KD diet in the present study was similar as in the previous study and provided ~1,440 kcal energy per day, ~6% as carbohydrate (=25 g/day), ~64% as fat, and 28% as protein. All meals were prepared in the catering kitchen of the Helsinki University Hospital and provided to the participants as four frozen microwave-safe meals. The participants were contacted by phone during the intervention to ensure compliance and to address any issues.
